BSA Troop 4 Gardner was first chartered in 1938 by Sacred Heart Church with 26 scouts. The parishes of Gardner merged in 2015 to form Annunciation Parish. As our Charter continues with Annunciation Parish, Troop 4 currently operates out of Holy Spirit Chapel. We are currently celebrating 60 Eagle Scouts with more scouts showing interest the highest attainable rank in scouting. Our highest membership year was in 1960 and 1962 with 41 scouts registered.
Our current neckerchief was inspired by the Patrol Leader’s Council, designed by the boys and approved by the troop committee. Troop 4 is proud to be a boy run (adult supervised) troop. The PLC meets on a regular basis (approximately every 6 weeks) to plan troop wide meetings, campouts, court of honors and other activities that enhance their scouting experience and assist with advancement. Our Senior Patrol Leader and other members of the PLC are National Youth Leadership Trained. NYL training provides profession development to all youth participants while providing them the tools necessary to BSA Scouting unit.
Troop 4’s adult leaders and committee members consist of parents and adult volunteers who firmly believe in the benefits of a scouting and the benefits it provides to youth development. All adults volunteers are registered, background checked and Youth Protection Trained with BSA National to ensure the safety of all youth participants. All adults are encouraged to also participate in position specific training including the adult version of NYLT called Woodbadge.
